I mowed the backyard of our Bella Vista house for the last time tonight and asked Angie to take some photos as Maddie and Nate took turns helping me. She did a wonderful job composing this frame so that the house and shed were in the background. We're moving on Friday and it seems so surreal. There's a lot I like about this place and the backyard is one of them. In fact, the backyard was one of the two main selling points when we bought it. Over the years, however, I've developed a love-hate relationship with it. I've loved every minute of watching the kids play in the sandbox or learning to ride the rocket swing by themselves. One of my favorite photos of Tommy is of him on top of the slide. But, two years of serious drought has really taken a toll on the grass. Without an irrigation well or sprinkler system, it proved impossible to keep from losing it. Even when mowing mostly weeds, I always enjoyed the hours of quiet solitude. Quiet solitude while mowing the yard? Hey, at least I couldn't hear the kids yelling at each other! I'll miss it, our spot in the world for the past five and a half years, but it's time to move on. I'm confident we'll make more and better memories at our next place. Now, time to pack. We tried to get all three kids to stand for a photo together but Tommy would have none of it. Still pretty happy with this frame and this is how I'll always remember the kids in our backyard.
