Pop passed away this week after a long struggle with Parkinson's. The last year, in general, and the last few months, in particular, were especially difficult. We struggled with how to explain Pop's passing to the kids, knowing full well that they weren't quite old enough to understand. They know that Pop's not been feeling well and Maddie is aware that she's not been able to have sleepovers in quite sometime. Though we didn't take them to the rosary or funeral, they did get to hang out with the family as all of Nan and Pop's kids and grandkids traveled back. Here, Maddie looks at pictures of Pop as we assembled a slideshow to play at his services. We ended up with more than 150 photos that span from his baby photo to Christmas dinner just a few weeks ago. He lived nearly 80 years and I got to know him for 10. What an incredible honor to call him my Pop, too.
